The Original Kids Theatre is presenting My Fair Lady. The musical tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from Henry Higgins in order to become an elegant lady and gain social status.
The cast is made up of youth all under the age of 18. They may be young but these performers have amazing talent. The acting, singing and dancing earned a standing ovation at their Thursday performance. Devon Dixon plays Freddy Eynsford-Hill. Dixon says he’s been in theatre for almost 11 years.
“It’s exhilarating to see the emotional effect you have on the audience, I think that’s what I do theatre for.” -Devon Dixon
Directing the play is Ceris Thomas. She said that directing this play has been a labour of love.
” It’s been my favourite musical since I was about eight years old. I saw my dad play Alfred Doolittle when I was eight years old, and that’s what made me want to do theatre. And then I played the role of Eliza when I was twenty-one. So it has been really fun to come back and visit it again.” -Ceris Thomas
The Original Kids production of My Fair Lady features one of musical theatre’s greatest scores.
- Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?
- With a Little Bit of Luck
- The Rain in Spain
