Single Women In Motherhood, also known as S.W.I.M is a non-profit organization where single mothers have an opportunity to change their lives along side their children to better themselves and get help if they need it. S.W.I.M is full of volunteers who are willing to help, but it’s also full of different programs that any single mother can use.
Programs such as the Child Exchange Program which is where you can bring your child to the S.W.I.M location and the child will receive daycare like care so that the mother can have a few free hour to herself. They also offer a program called Let’s Talk About It, which the mothers can attend every Monday and just talk about their situation, or their lives, or if they need help, and the volunteers, who are also life coaches, can help with that path.
“This place is where moms can go to have any kind of support.” -Evodi Bashangi, volunteer at S.W.I.M
This support program is not just for mothers who aren’t married, it’s for any mother who feels that she may need assistance. Even mothers who are married are welcome to come to S.W.I.M if they feel that their partner isn’t helping them. It’s also for mothers who may have spouses overseas, possibly gone for work, and even widowed mothers.
“Anything where they are in a situation where they are taking care of their children on their own, and they might be overwhelmed, and they need support to help direct their resources that will help them.” Tara Jay, volunteer at S.W.I.M on what their services are there for
S.W.I.M has a GoFundMe page, which is where most of their donations come from in order to keep the program up and running.
