Mayor Matt Brown awarded Kyla Bushell with the Tim Hickman Memorial Health and Safety Scholarship at City Hall this week.
Kyla Bushell is a Student at the University of Waterloo who has shown promise in leadership roles and raising awareness about workplace safety. The award is worth $3000, which is to help with her further studies and/or student loans.
Bushell was given a roaring applause from the city council and Mayor Matt Brown said he feels confident that Bushell will make great contributions to the workplace safety sector. She gave a gracious speech about the award and talked about the importance of this scholarship and the memory of Tim Hickman.
Hickman tragically lost his life in the service of this community at the young age of 21. This inspired the memorial scholarship in his honor. With her extensive volunteer and community work, Bushell was a worthy recipient of the award.
