The Spoke Rim and Tavern’s Rick McGhie:
he Spoke has been serving the Western community since 1969 and evokes feelings of nostalgia within the students. It’s a place where they can get away from their studies and enjoy one of The Spoke’s famous bagels.
The Spoke is an establishment that can be considered “for the students”, in the sense that they always have the students best interests in mind. One way they show this is by employing over 100 part-time students and paying out over $300,000 in salaries to them each year.
Aside from serving comfort food, The Spoke also provides entertainment for the students. Musical Performer, Rick McGhie is no stranger to this on-campus eatery and is considered to be a legend, as he has been performing their for over 35 years.
McGhie brings joy to the students by singing classics such as:
- Sweet Caroline
- Piano Man
- Brown Eyed Girl
- Hotel California
His performances are always interactive and every student attending the show knows the correct responses. It is always easy to tell when McGhie will be performing at The Spoke, as you will notice a huge lineup forming outside the door.
So why has this musical talent dedicated over 35 years to The Spoke? McGhie says its because the students seem to like him and that they just kept on coming, so he kept on performing!
After reading this, it may be safe to assume that The Spoke is a must-see place when visiting Western University and that everyone should at least once experience a care free night singing along to Rick McGhie’s renditions of popular classics
