Coors Light is trying to get people to ditch the stuffed animals and cuddle a real dog this month. If you’re thinking about adopting a dog this Valentine’s day, the beer company will pay some of the adoption fees.
Coors Light says they are trying to help beat the stress of cuffing season, by promoting companionship in a dog instead of a relationship.
“With almost half of millennials planning to stay in on Valentine’s Day, we wanted to help empower people to savor the day with Coors Light and a dog by their side,” Chelsea Parker, marketing manager at Molson Coors, said in the press release.
According to Humane Canada, over 100,000 animals are taken into shelters with 47% being adopted and 11% healthy animals being euthanized.
When people take the adoption route they are not only saving a life, they are also fighting the poor living conditions in puppy mills. There are also financial benefits when it comes to adopting, you not only save money on the adoption fees, but you also save money on the initial treatments and vaccines.
Lisa Baer is the animals care manager at London Animal Care Centre, says there are so many perks to adopting a dog.
“You’re getting a dog that is fully vetted, they will be spade or neutered, micro chipped, and have a two years license with the City of London. They will also come with deworming, flea and tick treatment.”
She says most dogs up for adoption in shelters are older and there are more benefits associated with age. The dogs will have their basic training as far as sit, stay and main leash manners. You don’t have to worry about accidents in the house and not sleeping through the night. The staff members are also extremely hands on with the animals so they can provide an accurate analysis of the dog’s personality and behaviors.
“There are so many benefits to having a pet, beyond companionship there have been studies that shown having a pet lowers your blood pressure and gives you that love at the end of the day.”
The beer company will be covering $100.00 of the adoption fees of the first 1,000 people between February 4th and the 21st. You must be of legal drinking age and participants can text “COORS4k9” and a picture of the adoption receipt to 28130.
