In the spirit of spooky season, I investigated myths about the Mystic Bookshop located in the old east village.
Allegedly the late previous owner Jody Trevail, was a witch. The new owner Mary Beechie, said that costumers come into the store asking about the “satanic rituals” that took place in the basement. Beechie explained that the basement is small and narrow,
and it would be hard to have a group of people. Saying this she also believed that the previous owner was up to something else.
Beechie allowed me to go inside the basement and take a look for myself. It was cold, eerie, and shielded in spider webs.
There were old photos, and boxes filled with jars. That apparently was owned by Trevails.
“I do think that Jody was up to some kind of magical workings. She did make up her own magical concoctions for people who are looking for let’s say a love spell”
Beechie expressed that previous employees were not allowed to step foot in Trevails back room, and that one employee even had to go up the street to use the washroom.
Beechie says that everyone explains Trevails appearance to be different.
Beechie then started asking her frequent customers to explain what she looked like.
“Some people would say she is a very tiny women, and some would say she was heavy set. Some would say she had crazy, wild, and curly hair. Then some people would say she had long and straight hair”
As Beechie was talking, she started to forget what Trevails looked like, but then described that she was beautiful.
Beechie also expressed that everyone described her age to be different.
She believes that Trevails is some form of shapeshifter.
Beechie’s costumers always talk highly about Trevails healing capabilities. Apparently a women came into the store saying that Trevails healed her soul, and that she would of not been able to get off drugs without the help of Trevails.
Beechie says that, her student customers tell her that Trevails made them feel wanted and that the store was a safe place. She wants the store to keep the same message.
Beechie thinks that Trevails spirit still lives within the store.
