Toronto FC was given a bye to compete in the North American annual club competition after Forge FC was not able to face them in the Canadian Championship Final due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The first of CCL round of 16 between TFC and Club Leon will kick off tonight at 8:00 pm ET, at the Estadio León and the second leg will take place at the Osceola County Stadium, home ground of Orlando B, one week later.
The Liga MX reigning champions, Club Leon are heavy favorites going into the fixture and they have already played 13 league games this season while TFC has only played 2 friendly games in the calendar year.
TFC’s overall CCL record currently stands at 15 wins, 10 draws and 12 defeats in 37 matches since their tournament debut in 2009.
When asked about expectation going into the tie in the pre-match conference, TFC coach Chris Armas said, “My expectation is to take one series at a time and that we step on the field with total belief, total togetherness, and total clarity and we go after it in a real way, that’s intelligent and clear how we wanna operate with or without the ball”
This will be Chris’s first game as the TFC coach and he told the fans to expect a high pressing aggressive team, who will be looking to attack through direct vertical channels.
Getting a positive result at the Estadio León could set TFC’s season to a very well start and would bring hopes of a deep cup run among tye fans.
