When it comes to the gym, it can be a dawning experience for a gym goers first time. People you don’t know, exercises that you may not know how to do properly, and just an all-round nervousness. Starting out at a new gym is something that anyone who attends has to go through regardless of experience.
Jessica Bryant is a personal trainer who works at a local gym here in London, and this is what she had to say on what people should expect for their first time in a gym. “So when they come into the gym, they can expect a completely judgment free zone. We love to have everyone in here like all ages, anywhere from 13, up to I think the oldest member we have is in our 80s. People from all walks of life, all around the planet. So we have a lot of students from international here as well. So we do our best to make sure that everybody feels comfortable and can work out in a safe, positive environment.”
One thing about the gym is that anyone can attend, from old, young, small or big. You have all kinds of different people coming together for one mutual thing, bettering themselves through working out. “I would say, it has to do a lot with the fact that we get people from all around the world. Different cultures, religions, things like that, so everybody brings kind of their own way of being to the gym and it seems to work well and everybody accepts one another.”
As the saying usually goes, there’s always a few bad apples in the bunch, so there can be some issues when it comes to the gym. “I mean, obviously there’s been, you know, an incident here or there because you know, someone bumped someone or whatever and it was a misunderstanding. I find unfortunately what we do still hear a lot of is young women coming up, feeling uncomfortable being eyed or, you know, followed around.” These are the types of people that the majority of the gym community do not associate with and want to make everyone as comfortable as possible when at the gym.
