Fanshawe student union is electing a new president
Presidential elections are on the way for Fanshawe student union which implies, this is the time of the year when students will be voting and selecting their next president. But the biggest question is does it even bother students at all? Is anyone interested in these elections at all?
Presidential election happens once in a year in last week of February till first week of march. this year voting will be on March.6,2023- march.8,2023. Being a president of student merely is not a position,but a responsibility. Some people think being a president is just about organizing or showing up at various events but, a president is a representative of students and advocate for them. This year ten candidates have been elected for this position. Each of them has their own proposals which cover various issues that students are going through in their daily life.
According to the list provided by Fanshawe student union, various international students have shown interest in these elections by participating as a candidate which gives a clear glimpse about diversity in the school and an opportunity for everyone to participate. However, after talking with various students about elections it seems like they are not quite interested in this. It could be due to various reasons but biggest of all could be their busy schedules or lack of interest maybe those promises made by candidates are not fulfilled. Another reason could be Fanshawe consists of 25% of 22,000 international students who are enrolled in short programs.  
After having a brief conversation with one of the student candidates it seems candidates are filled with enthusiasm, ready to help everyone. Reynnate Bendanna is one of the candidates and he is addressing some major issues that students are facing these days is getting hired after completing their graduation which can be a major problem to deal with. He further says” As a president for student union I would be taking steps to connect with various companies that ways students will be hired as soon as they complete their studies. Moreover, I will be taking some steps to address mental health issue student face these days”.
According to some students a president should be someone who is involved with Fanshawe student union very often. Someone who is a good leader, having strong management skills and should be able to stand strong for students as Fanshawe is diverse having people from more than 119 countries.
After all, there are some expectations from upcoming president while some students are not interested in this at all.
