Bodybuilding has always been seen as an unhealthy sport, The question is why? Dean Mamatis from London Ontario is a former bodybuilder who has experience in the sport, and gave his opinion on the matter.
First, Dean talked about the preparation for the events. He explained the dieting which can be strict and usually involves “increasing fat and protein intake”. Dean then spoke about supplementing, he expressed his belief in using supplements to “fill small holes and not craters” which in short means not relying on them to get you to your goal, and obviously that too much supplementing can lead to negative health effects. For example, Dean mentioned that he took lots of high caffeine pre workouts that in turn have given him sensitivity to caffeine later in life.
Dean believes the marketing behind supplements is the issue to why people overuse supplements and says “People just have to be very careful and expect realistic results” by not using a picture of a person who is absolutely shredded as the reason to take a supplement.
To end off, Dean spoke about performance enhancing drugs. He said that usage is still extremely prominent even if there is testing being done. He talked about seeing many of his peers using many different enhancers like Testosterone, Dball and Trenbolone Acetate AKA Tren and says there was no judgement for those who used. He believes that the users shouldn’t hide it if they are taking them, and since the drugs likely won’t go away in the sport that people need to do their research on these drugs to avoid serious health concerns like heart problems and immune system issues just to name a few. Just like everything else in the sport it seems that looking into what you need to do to reach your goals safely is the best way to stay healthy in the sport of bodybuilding.
