Students at Fanshawe College came together to celebrate the Lunar New Year with an energetic event, thanks to the efforts of the International Department and cultural clubs. More than 100 students from different backgrounds joined in to enjoy East Asian traditions.
FSU President Siddharth Singh was excited about the event’s success. “You’ll see a lot of Filipinos and a lot of people from different cultures, like, uh, domestic students and Indians because that’s what we try to bring in FSU. we try to create an environment where all the students can connect with each other. And this is one of those. And it’s one of our most successful events. As you can see, it’s really packed full. And again, last year it was paid, but this year it’s free. So, I’m really happy with the turnout of all, everything that’s going on.”
The event had traditional performances, music, and dance, which excited the crowd. A South Korean Club member shared their excitement. “the Lunar New Year event is for Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese right now. And we did some games. And we are gonna go perform right now. So you guys can enjoy it. And actually, there are so many people here today. I would say it’s one of the biggest events in Asia. I’m really happy to have this in Canada. I’m so excited. Happy New Year!”
One student added, “I think Canada is a place for like different culture or different countries people come to this place and have their new life. So it’s good to know there are other people or another community’s culture. So that’s great.”
Students from different backgrounds celebrated together, honouring traditions and strengthening the campus community during the Lunar New Year festivities.
