The London area is in store for some severe, wet weather this week.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for most of southwestern Ontario early this morning, saying that they are tracking yet another big weather system coming from Colorado.
“That system is expected to approach the Great Lakes on Wednesday spreading initially shower activity,” says Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Geoff Coulson.
Coulson adds that there is a “potential for quite significant rainfall accumulations.”
The statement issued by Environment Canada says the area, including the city and Middlesex county, could see anywhere from 30 to 50 millimetres of rain, accompanied by thunderstorms.
The statement continues saying localized flooding in low-lying area is possible and that rainfall warnings may be issued as the storm draws near.
XFM News reached out to the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority for comment, and they are preparing to issue a flood bulletin later today.
Despite the wet weather, it should be fairly warm for the rest of the week, with Coulson forecasting Thursday to get up to 18 degrees.
