On April 16th, 2023, beloved Cafe known as the Old South coffee shop and bakery located in Wortley Village burned down due to arson. However, it is now being rebuilt back in Wortley. Longtime fans of the establishment are excited for its reopening when the construction is finished. Some questions arise while the public waits for the building to finish.
Co-Owner Ed Etheridge said this in an interview,
“The atmosphere, the building shape, the seating plan will largely reflect what it was before. The long bench, the colour scheme, everything. We really want to bring it back, we don’t want to make some new modern thing, we want to bring back what people loved. And um, the menu will be the same as what it was before.”
When later asked if there’s any statement on when the construction is going to be finished, he said this.
“We’re hoping for the fall but knowing construction you never know what can come up and delay things but we’re hoping for the fall but we don’t have a set date yet”
He then goes on to say this about the feedback and support throughout the years.
“Tons of excitement and tons of acknowledgement and well wishing. anticipation of the building getting back up and people having that community hub back again. thanks for everyone’s support and patience during the rebuild it’s been a roller-coaster of events.”
