The end of the school year also marks the end of the season for most of the Fanshawe Fuel esports teams.
The club has teams in multiple games such as Call of Duty, Rocket League, Valorant, and more. Most of the teams made playoffs in both semesters but standout teams include the Call of Duty fall team winning their NACE division, and the winter League of Legends Academy team winning their NECC division. Fanshawe has been gaining more recognition in the college esports space. Most recently Fuel teams have been invited to compete in St Clair tournaments in Windsor. St. Clair being known for fully embracing esports and having built a $23 million arena to support competition.
Fuel has also been hosting events for Fanshawe College, and they continue on fostering a community. This year they ran multiple in person events such as a competition between Fanshawe and Western University teams and have tried new events such as their “squid games” competition.
According to Adam Boyce one of the staff for Fuel, The Fuel gaming room has seen record numbers, “we almost broke 25,000 hours in the Fuel station, so we’ve added a significant amount of time used in here.” and it seems like the growth of the community has no signs of slowing down.
Tyler “Sistane” Bello, has played for the Fuel teams for a while. “I’ve had a lot of fun, but it’s too competitive of a field and a lot of the pros already retire at 23-25.”
On Wednesday, April the 16th, Fuel esports will be hosting their second awards ceremony to celebrate the teams that competed and the staff that made everything possible.
