There are significant changes coming to Air Canada’s Aeroplan loyalty program, and just at the same time, the airline faces the threat of considerable labor disruption.
Air Canada is getting ready to change how travelers earn points through its Aeroplan loyalty program.
Starting January 1st, 2026, Aeroplan members will earn points based on how much they spend and not anymore on how far they fly.
Under the new system, passengers will get at least one Aeroplan point per dollar spent on eligible Air Canada flights.
The airline says the changes reward its most valuable customers who fly often and spend more money.
However, while the loyalty program is being refreshed, the airline is also facing immediate turbulence on the labour front.
More than 99% of Air Canada’s flight attendants have voted in favor of a strike.
Both sides are set to return to the table this Friday, but a strike could happen on August 16th.
The airline says there’s still time to reach a deal and avoid disruptions, but it hasn’t provided further comments since the vote results were announced.
If a strike does happen, it could affect thousands of passengers during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
