Strong winds prompted alerts all over southwestern Ontario on Thursday, but it also revealed a big secret in Lake Erie.
When winds pushed the shore back during the storm, it briefly revealed a shipwreck near the town of Kingsville.
Using Google Maps, witnesses estimated that the ship was about 150 metres from shore, and about 22 metres long.
Kingsville historian Robert Lynch said it could be one of two shipwrecks, the Demming or the Overton, both dating back to before the 20th century.
Lynch said the shipwreck has been exposed before, thanks to the shallowness of Pigeon Bay, the area of Lake Erie where the wreck surfaced.
Many others in Kingsville went out looking for the wreck, but the water has since covered its tracks.
