Londoners were able to attend a community meeting for the Masonville Transit Village Secondary Plan. The meeting was held at the Church of St. Jude.
City Officials discussed many key considerations in the secondary plan:
- Parking and traffic
- Infrastructure
- Connectivity
- Housing mix
- Parks and open spaces
- Heights and transitions
- Community services and facilities
- Transit
During the question and answer period, community members wanted information about high rise development.
With London expecting the population to grow Manager of Urban Regeneration, Britt O’Hagan says high rises are one factor in the planning process.
“In the next 20 years we’re looking at 80 000 people coming to London.”
O’Hagan says the City doesn’t want to sprawl out into the surrounding farmland. Instead, focus on building within the city.
“Incorporating different types of housing units is really important, that can be anything from a secondary suite, a townhouse and sometimes high rises.”
The community meeting was the first step the City has taken for the Masonville Transit Village, and the planning department is always looking for Londoners to get involved.
