Canada has launched the largest mass vaccination program in its history. As vaccination centers are open in Ontario for people who are born before 1961, steps will be taken soon for a vaccine rollout for youth since the cases of COVID in the 18-22 age range are alarming.
London has reported 176 cases of COVID-19 today, as Ontario reported 4,156 new cases, while public health units administered a new record-high number of vaccine doses. Those dosed are also given to long-term care, high-risk retirement home residents, some health-care workers and people who live in congregate care settings.
“It was quite uncomfortable the next day, but when I think about in long term, I would have much rather felt that way for one day knowing that I would be protected and would be protecting others against COVID. I felt like I had a bit of a flu the second time but a lot of people have reactions to certain vaccines. So for me, there wasn’t a concern. And the doctors and nurses that were there are very educated on it. And all the questions I had they had answers for,so it was nice to feel listened to.” Becca MacDougall, Personal Support Worker at St. Joseph’s Hospital in London, Ontario.
Health unit data shows roughly 95,000 vaccines have been administered locally so far, averaging between 2,000 and 2,200 shots per day. Health officials say there is currently the capacity to do 150,000 vaccinations per day for Ontarians.
More details on the local vaccination plans can be found on the MLHU’s website.
