According to London Hydro Wednesday’s fire, and power outage was caused by an isolated equipment malfunction, which is known to occur in aging equipment. There is no risk of further issues connected to this incident.
Fanshawe College’s on scene response coordinator Ivan Walker had high praise for London Hydro, stating their rapid response ensured the fastest possible resolution to the situation. He explained that Fanshawe’s connection (in the compromised area) to London Hydro’s power source was broken resulting in the fire. Once we were reconnected to a main power source, electricity was restored.
Power was interrupted in several buildings including the on-campus residence buildings, and the M building the broadcast center. The power was restored before the morning and thus no Fanshawe campus classes were affected.
During the incident several portions of Fanshawe staff were involved, campus security and special constables had the area contained and traffic blocked, Fanshawe’s maintenance team, as well as other members of the college’s response team were present as well. London Fire responded to handle the fire and then London Hydro moved in to repair the damage.
In person classes were cancelled Wednesday evening as power remained out into the night. As of 6:30 A.m. Thursday power was fully restored.
