
On January 2022 one of the biggest protests in Kazakhstan’s history took place. Initially, everything started peacefully and later turned into a War. The reason was increasing of gas and oil prices, which weren’t matching people’s average salary, so Kazakhs decided on protesting in order to reach the government out. The protests began in the Mangistau region and expanded the protesters had political demands. On January 4, there were riots in Almaty city. President Tokayev declared emergency in the regions, and on the morning of January 5, he accepted the resignation of the government. On the afternoon of January 5, Tokayev replaced Nazarbayev at the head of the country’s Security Council. The CSTO forces have been brought into the country. On January 9, the Kazakh authorities announced that the situation had stabilized.
The protests have affected people’s life enormously. There were a murdering cases down the street, loitering, robbing markets and centers, lack of groceries at the stores, flashlights, shots and so on.
People were hoping for the best because nobody was able to leave their houses for about 3-4 weeks. Government cut citizen out of the internet access. However, people have been using VPN apps in order to keep in touch with relatives. The cases were internet was given is 4am at the night for one hours when nobody was able to do something. Posting the news against the government policy would lead to the prison or high fines.
Eventually, when everything was getting stabilized, everyone was proud of Nationality by standing on telling their truth’. Because technically, protests and rallies were saving everybody’s lives. Now, it is thought that Kazakhs achieved the deserving justice.
