Covid 19 definitely jeopardized the hospitality industry economy. and Growing Chefs relaunched another season of this local initiative. Londonlicious, strives to keep enticing new clients with affordable prices and delicious meals with curated price-fix menus.
Growing Chefs is a charity entity (born in London, Ontario) with 15 years of existence supporting people to develop a healthier relationship with food through the province.
The event will remain active until Feb. 9 and the organizers are quite surprised that almost 40 restaurants are participating on the event. Even when there´s only one week to go for the festivity, more and more food spots are willing to participate.
Juan Ramirez is the owner of Che and Casa Cubana, 2 establishments that decided partake for multiple reasons. He discovered the passion for cooking after he decided to move from Cuba to Canada.
“The prices are incredible. I love the takeaway option and Juan cooks godly. My favorite dish is Ropa Vieja (one of the most requested Cuban dishes)”, says Susan (a regular customer).
Juan risked his life by leaving Cuba on a boat and, few months later, he was able to get accustomed to Canada. Yet, despite of having 2 bachelor degrees, he worked on several restaurants and later decided to create his own business later in Hamilton’s Road Street.
“It´s truth that we are not still operating as we did prior to the pandemic and this is my main source of income. Fortunately, this type of initiative helps me reach more customers”, mentions Juan.
Amanda, a Colombian resident that has been living here for 10 years, says that through the Instagram @londonlicious got ahold with Casa Cubana and thinks herself as a regular customer of the place.
The continuation is confirmed in 2024 and, according to the official website (http://londonlicious.ca/) it´s expected for almost all the local restaurants to apply and add the facilitate the pick-up option for clients.
