“Hundreds of Londoners gathered at the corner of Wonderland and Oxford Street to mourn the deaths of the people who died in Gaza due to Israel’s attacks. The street was filled with Canadian and Palestinian flags being raised by people of many beliefs and cultures in order to support Palestine.
“The war is not affecting only the military side; Israel is now bombing every single person, house, hospital, school, and every place over there. There are innocent people being killed because of it, and it is affecting everybody,” said the organizers.
“We just want them to stop the war and we request world politicians to protect the human rights of the people trapped there.”
The Latin American Canadian Solidarity Association of London also joined the vigil in support of Palestine.
“We stand here against the atrocities of Israel, which is shameful that the world has to see this. Nobody wants violence. We are here, begging for peace,” said a member of the association.
“What Israel is doing is a crime against humanity. They cannot just ignore international law and go on wiping out people from their lands and houses.”
Many in the vigil said they have lost connections with their friends and families in Gaza and called for a ceasefire in the Hamas-Israel war.
More than 60 London police officials kept an eye on the crowd and ensured that the vigil remained peaceful.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 2,300 people were killed, and almost 10,000 were injured after Israel retaliated against Gaza.
