Fanshawe College’s Fashion Design students are making final preparations for their upcoming Unbound showcase. The theme is called “SHIFT”, and stands for sustainability, heritage, inclusivity, fashion and technology.
“SHIFT represents a bold fusion of these elements, pushing boundaries and reimagining the future of fashion. It’s not just a concept—it’s a movement,” says Leigh-Ann Waller, the Coordinator of Fashion Design and Design Foundations at Fanshawe.

The show is an annual event that involves a runway of the third-year students’ collections, before their graduation from the Fashion Design program.
Waller says they’re “expecting an audience of approximately 375 guests” and “over 100 volunteers representing one of the 16 collaborative college programs.”
One student in the program, Khaalid Ennis, says “you can expect a lot of different culture, a lot of personalities, a lot of sustainability” within the show, and adds they’ve “put their heart into it” and “you can tell.”
Another student, Olajumoke Emuobo, says “it’s a class of 33 designers” and “you can expect to see a lot of heritage and culture, because people pulled inspiration from their roots.”
She adds that “people see fashion design as something easy” despite its challenges, and that “there’s a lot of growth” within personal aspects of the program.
The pieces worn on the runway will come from designs created starting in September of last year.
Two other third-year students made comments about the event, with Tiago Pissarro saying he’s “excited to see everyone’s hard work, dedication and effort,” and Kaila Sada saying it is important to “give emerging designers the light that they need” through events such as Unbound.
The Unbound show is happening on April 12 in Fanshawe’s J Gym 3 at 7 p.m.
