Londoners can find a new option for child care, community support, and family services all in one area.
Family Centre Huron Heights and YMCA Child Care has opened at St. Anne’s Catholic School on Huron Street to provide care to those seeking affordability, education, and safety for their kids.
“It is a hub of services for families in this neighbourhood and beyond,” said Program Coordinator, Nadine Reeves, at the grand opening Wednesday morning.
“We’re really here to listen to what [the community] needs, be responsive, and work with our community partners.”
The addition includes sensory-friendly areas, play spaces, and a built-in kitchen for families to use.
It gives members a “seamless transition”, says City of London Director in Child Care, Shirley Glover, to go from young child care services to school-aged education all in one building.
This provides the kids with “one environment” to be a part of, maintaining their “relationship with teachers and educators across both systems,” said Glover.
Both before and after school care as well as full-day child care are available to parents, grandparents and their children to utilize the space together.
There are nine Family Care Centres in the city, with Ward 3 Councillor, Peter Cuddy, saying he’s “so grateful we have people in our community that share and give” to make this place what it is.
“That’s what it’s all about.”
