The iconic German twin entertainers Alice and Ellen Kessler have died.
The singing, dancing sisters were never far apart in life and it seems not in death either.
According to officials, the twins died by medically assisted suicide at their home in Grünwald, near Munich, a decision voluntarily made and legally under German law.
Born in East Germany in 1936, they launched their career early at the Leipzig Opera, later performing in Paris, the U.S. and Italy. They shared stages with icons like Frank Sinatra and Fred Astaire, becoming Italian TV personalities popular enough to gain the nickname “The Nation’s Legs.”
They had planned on being together for life. They left a joint request to have their ashes buried in one urn, together with their mother, Elsa, and their dog, Yello.
The sisters both died at age 89.
