A report of possible gunshots that triggered a heavy police presence and road shutdowns in south London Wednesday morning was likely the sound of fireworks, police said.
Police released an individual they’d taken into custody after searching the person’s residence and investigating, said Sgt. Sandasha Bough in a statement.
“No firearm was located,”Bough said. “Officers did locate evidence of fireworks being discharged which is believed to be the source of the initial reports.
“No charges are being laid in relation to this investigation.”
Just after 8 a.m., several officers responded to the 100-block of Baseline Rd., where they shut down nearby roads and ordered schools in a hold-and-secure position while they investigated the report of “possible gunshots.”
Police reopened roads and schools after arresting the resident of a nearby building.
