RPN Nursing student Jade Bisson-Lainesse is also a part time lifeguard. She has been lifeguarding for 5 years and is determined to turn her drive and passion to help people even more than she does now. Her first year at college was interrupted by the 5 week strike that occurred earlier in the year but instead of letting it stall her education and it made her even more determined.
“I really struggled in the second semester to catch up with all the work because of all the material that was skipped over and missed from all that wasted time. But I studied and worked really hard to get it all done to the best of my abilities“
Lainesse grew up in a home with three siblings, originally from Montreal, her first language is french. She then moved to a small town and was home schooled along with the rest of her siblings. She is now bilingual in both english and french. Attending college and keeping up with a demanding job is only half of what she deals with day to day. After completing her college education as an RPN she is hoping to go through more school to obtain her RN and work in a setting where she can help as many people as possible and do as much as she is able to.
“When I am at placement and look at my patients it confirms for me that this is the job for me.”
A lot of the time nurses are not thought of, they are not recognized for being their hour after hour for their patients. The reality is that nurses do a lot more for patients then one may think. There are many reports of nurses being ignored or “swept under the rug”. Their importance radiates many others as without them the health system would crumble.
A lot of these nurses are defending the legalization of cannabis as they have seen the many ways its worked on patients in the past.
“We must ensure the legislation strike the right balance of protecting the health of the public with appropriate safeguards, while continuing to support access to medical cannabis.”
Bottom line nurses are trying to get across is, there is a lot you do not know about their role and they have knowledge they want to share.
National nursing week takes place May 7-13, where you can show support and thanks to local nurses.
