The Fanshawe Student Union hosted the Chill Lounge at the Forwell Hall to help students de-stress during exam season.
President Morgana Sampson says, it is crucial to have these activities as a part of school especially during this time of the year to help students de-stress and relax.
A car smash piñata is one of the new activities that FSU introduced this year. Lisa C Elliot, the Finance Coordinator says that it’s a chance for “students to take all of their rage and frustrations out”. Activities that were available were meant to be something that students could drop in between classes and take a break quickly.
Clara M’Collin is a general science student said that stress especially during exams can be “explosive” for her and “just holding a tiny rabbit is so amazing, I love it so much”.
Some of the activities that were part of the Chill Lounge were free popcorn, Free drinks, Petting zoo that included Llama, rabbits, bunnies, goats, sheep and therapy dogs. They also had a section where you could get a free massage, henna tattoo, play at the video game lounge and play games like spin the wheel or Jenga. Some of the activities did have a fee of $5 and all the funds go towards the Canadian Mental Health Association; which is Fanshawe’s charity for the year.
Lisa C Elliot says that as a student herself she wants everyone to “remember to take a break and relax, it’s important to take care of yourself even during rough times”.
Sampson, the President said that she understand that “not everyone get the time to actually go out and watch a movie or do stuff so FSU has taken it an initiative to do something for the students while they are in school”.
With the success of the Chill Lounge during the mid-terms, they have planned this session to help students and are constantly looking to add or make changes to what they at the Chill Lounge.
