Game Preservation has been a growing concern with some gamers feeling left out. Xbox has tried to make strides to keep old games available for sale. However, Xbox’s Head Phil Spencer has said they will stop doing the backwards compatibility as of last year because many companies want to keep games either delisted or remake/remastered. Many vintage stores sell old games one of those stores is GameCycle in London.
GameCycle has many games and reused consoles. When it comes to the sustainability of stores like these. it focuses on it Buy Sell and Trade model. When speaking to the employee of GameCycle John Smithers. When asking him if he sees trends or fends with the shop. he said about it was that he sees highs and lows but overall it’s very consistence.
With Xbox pushing for more of focus Game Pass and Digitally bought games. The future of stores like Gamecycle need a plan for the future.
John would say about it “absolutely so digital only they’ve talked about that for a few Generations now and there’s always been pushback because people enjoy having something in their hands when they pay money, they don’t necessarily want just a digital copy.”
John would go onto to say “So I don’t think it’s ever gonna go away completely, but we’ll always do our best to make sure that we have at least one of each game in stock as best we can.”

Ken explains how they can suscceful for the future “Going concern concept is you is is employed with the business like you don’t want to be overly aggressive. Because by doing so you could be extending yourself in directions that you can’t recover. The slow and steady approach, you know works for a lot of businesses. And and helps perpetuate sustainability, but you need to understand that your your business ethics won’t deviate and you’re not going to chase something. That’s You know that that’s not within your given business mode.”
Ken would go onto explain that the buy, sell and trade model can be a two-way street. He believes you can keep the same model and don’t get overly aggressive stores like Gamecycle can survive the future of digital, if they keep the path.
