The concerts, the artistic events, and the comedy shows regardless of the language which is used, prove that words and culture do not limit learning, understanding, reactions, feelings, or emotions. ´Agraciadas: Feminine Voices Encounters´ gathers to the stage precisely these 3 aspects: music, experiences in love, and humor.
This group (made up of four Colombian women, three of them singer-songwriters and one comedian) entertained attendees this Saturday at Casa Latina (150 Dundas Street) and made them laugh, sing loud, enjoy the jokes, and feel guitar chords that intertwine perfectly while they told their stories of love, dreams, and pain; commemorating International Women´s Day.
“The event was beautiful, brilliant, and very funny. The music was lovely. It was amazing. It was so fun. It was too nice to see it,” says Jane Beattie, an attendee from London.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t speak Spanish as a first language or don’t get everything they say, as part of the audience you can appreciate and identify that the melodies and the stories they tell might take you on a journey of sensations and interpretations.
The scenarios for comedy and compositions are often focused on men, especially when talking about topics related to sex, strength, heartbreaks, or intimacy. The target audience is often not mixed, as certain places cater to specific genres depending on tastes or passions.
“I´m so happy; 60 people said ´Yes´ to the event. We had a mixed public. This is very important because sometimes men see events targeted with many women in the poster and think they are just for women, but this time we have different ages,” says Camila Ariza, actress and one of the members of ´Agraciadas performance´.
One piece that caught the attention of the spectators was to see 3 women singing songs (some known and some own) and majestically playing the guitar while the director of this collective group narrated anecdotes and situations that any human experiences when it starts, breaks, or consummates a relationship.
“The evening was so good. They are great artists. The songs are incredible because they are their creations and Camila is so funny, she knows how to make everyone laugh and have a good time,” says Celina Gutiérrez, an attendee from México.
´Agraciadas´ pursues to open artistic meeting spaces between Colombia and Canada that promote inclusion and generate reflection on perceptions and points of view about the female universe. Also, to create meeting spaces and cultural dialogue where diverse artistic expressions can converge and mutually enrich each other.
