At its Library Learning Commons, Fanshawe College hosted an incredible Solar Eclipse watch Party that attracted hundreds of students for an amazing heavenly show. All attendees had the opportunity to participate in interesting science activities and get special solar eclipse glasses for safe viewing, making the event on April 8, 2024, an unforgettable experience.
“I’m really excited to be here, and we’re kind of doing some science experiments, and everybody seems to be extremely excited for this event,” expressed one enthusiastic student. “It definitely is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for everybody to come out. So yeah, it’s a great day.”
The moon’s passage between the Earth and the sun, which produced a shadow that reduced the sun’s brightness, amazed all those present.
“Well, I think it’s a pretty cool experience,” shared another attendee. “It’s great that Fanshawe is putting on and providing facilities for students to be able to check this out, you know, and it certainly puts some things into perspective, doesn’t it?”
Students gathered to watch this uncommon astronomical event together creating an exciting and wonder-filled environment that continued throughout the event. For everyone present, the solar eclipse left an unforgettable reminder of the enormousness and beauty of the universe. Another student said, “Yeah, the sun’s gonna look a little darker.” It helps us understand how long these massive universes have been there for billions of years. We only get to witness a solar eclipse once throughout our short lives”
The Solar Eclipse Watch Party proved to be a successful example of Fanshawe’s dedication to offering educational and memorable experiences
