“It’s a good stress reliever and a good way to get out of our room and dance with friends,” says Gabby Pisquem and Kyleigh Quinn.
The two Fanshawe students saw the need for a dance team and together created Fanshawe’s competitive dance club.
“We decided to make it into a club because we miss dancing so much,” says Pisquem, president of the club. The pair both have a background in competitive dancing and felt that Fanshawe would gain from the addition of the club.
Even though it took a lot of tedious paperwork Pisquem and Quinn felt Fanshawe would benefit from the addition of the club, with the aim being to learn and compete in dance styles such as jazz, ballet, hip hop, lyrical, and contemporary.
Despite the group not knowing each other before the beginning of the year, they have now grown close and constantly support one another.
“None of us really knew each other before we started the team and now we became pretty good friends because of dance,” says Pisquem.
Together the team stays motivated with the help of their captains while taking part in dancing competitions using their own choreographed routines against other schools.
“ Were happy we were able to make it to this place and were proud of everyone.”
