One of Fanshawe College’s largest programs is Music Industry Arts or MIA. With graduation season just around the corner, one of the class of 2024 future-graduates, shares his plans for the future and some of his fears.
“It is kind of a frightening thing, just because it’s happening so fast,” says Arlo Cossonnet or ‘King Ghoul’, a vocalist in the MIA program.
Artificial Intelligence is a growing threat in many industries, and Cossonnet shared about how it could affect his field. However, he also shared his optimism and how he doesn’t think AI will ever truly erase the human element in art.
“I think that AI won’t be able to mask and replace the creativity and like the real heart and soul of music.”
Cossonnet also talked about his plans post-graduation, entering the changing industry.
“MIA’s really given us the tools to kind of branch out and choose anyone that we want which is great.”
Cossonnet spoke highly about the program as a whole.
“It’s been a welcoming experience here at Fanshawe.”
Overall, in spite of the growing prevalence of artificial intelligence, Cossonnet was optimistic and prepared for a future career in the music industry and recommended the program for aspiring musicians.
