A protest took place on Wellington Road South over the 401 Main Series highway. The protest took place on Sunday the 7th of April.
Protesters gathered on the bridge to protest the effects the Carbon Tax would have on Canadians. They brought speakers to play traditional old Canadian country and folk music as well as a loud truck horn to grab the attention of passing drivers.
Drivers going by would honk back and sometimes slow down to yell out of their car windows. The six protesters’ main goal was to spread awareness on this issue and give Londoners a voice.
“This protest is about the Carbon Tax. It is a tax that taxes everything, you cannot put a single thing on a list that doesn’t get taxed because of the Carbon Tax, from our gas to our food”.
Adrian Keet was a member of the protest. Keet was at the protest waving at drivers, having conversations with people that were passing, and trying to spread his message. He was also carrying a plastic axe that had ‘Axe The Tax’ Written across it.
Other Members of the protest were holding Canadian flags as well as flags with crude language directed towards Justin Trudeau.
“People are feeling the effects of this. There is a reason why there’s homelessness and it is because of the law and the government policies”, Keet said. “I do believe in paying taxes obviously, but it’s to a point where the government and our taxes no longer represent us”.
Adrian Keet and the other members of the protest hope that the Canadian government can see their perspective and make a change to the Carbon tax Policy.
