The Esports community has been on the rise at Fanshawe college from competitive teams, to casual events.
The Fanshawe Fuel discord server is currently at 3,400 members, and has grown over 500 members since the start of the 2025 fall semester. Adam (Boyc3) Boyce is Fuel’s Esports Media Lead for about a year, but has been a part of the Fuel team since 2020. They said with the major growth of 2021 after Covid Fuel is looking to expand for more games and more teams.
“Currently we have multiple teams across 20 different games. Recently we added Marvel Rivals as it was the new popular game also TFT, we just brought back Sim Racing and are looking to add more over the upcoming years.” They said.
One major part of the growth is the in-person events Fuel puts on every Monday here at the college. Those games being Chess, EAFC, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
“These events are successful especially Smash Bros as we have people come from Niagara and Windsor since there are not many events like this here in Canada, so people want to be apart of that whenever they can. EAFC nights are also good as soccer is a popular sport outside of Canada so it targets the international students here at Fanshawe.” They said.

With these events they are more staying away from competitive showcases to casual hangouts where people can meet others with similar interests.
“Since we moved in person after Covid it didn’t feel like a bunch of people playing video games anymore, it felt like a community coming together spending time with each other hanging out just because we like similar games.” Boyce added.
“At the end of the day we are one of if not the biggest student ran communities here at Fanshawe. We are licensed by the FSU so we are a business in all, but we are a I have made friends and still hangout inside and outside of work.”
