The Table Top Role Playing Games (TTRPG) club at Fanshawe College has launched its first paint night event, offering members a chance to learn how to paint miniatures used in popular tabletop games.
Many tabletop role-playing games rely on detailed miniatures to represent characters and creatures. However, painting supplies can be expensive, and mastering the techniques can be challenging for beginners. Organizers say the event was designed to make the hobby more accessible by providing materials and guidance for new players.
Kevin, one of the club’s leaders and an avid fan of Dungeons & Dragons, said the idea grew out of interest from members who play a range of games.
“We mostly want to do the paint night because we have a good amount of people who play Dungeons & Dragon… and we want to give them something to play, have their character represented as, as well as we have some Warhammer players as well, and I know that painting miniatures is like a big part in that. So I want us to be like more open to more stuff than just Dungeons & Dragons,” he said.
In addition to Dungeons & Dragons, some members also play Warhammer, a game system where painted miniatures are central to gameplay.
Kevin said the positive reception to the first event means more paint nights are likely in the future.
“I think this is pretty fun, as it allows people to be more creative in a different way than just sitting around at a table and rolling dice,” he said. “But having something more than just Dungeons & Dragons day in and day out is a nice break in pace.”
